The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s first national Scheme for people with disability, providing funding directly to individuals.
There are around 4.3 million Australians who have a disability. Within the next five years, the NDIS will provide more than $22 billion in funding a year to an estimated 500,000 Australians who have a permanent and significant disability. For many people, it will be the first time they receive the disability support they need.
A key purpose of the NDIS is to give all individuals Choice and Control of their lives and communities by connecting and engaging across various platforms such as accommodation, medical, doctors, sporting clubs, support groups, libraries and schools.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is a housing initiative under the NDIS to appropriately accommodate participants, including to assist with the delivery of supports that cater for their extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
Funding is provided for eligible participants of NDIS with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs who meet specific eligibility criteria.
